Reflections of the Heart and Soul: Part One

by Dorell

The wind blew lightly around her delicate form, making her hair dance much like the flame of a candle as it whispered through her hair. Her arms wrapped around her person in a light hug, picking at the fuzzies on her light green sweater as she walked the mansion grounds.

Her mind, not focused on her destination, but elsewhere...someplace deep within her own mind. A sanctuary perhaps..where her most precious memories were kept. It didn't matter though, her feet had walked the path to the lake many times before. They no longer needed her conscious guidance.

Yet this time, she made the trek alone. His warm hand no longer held hers, his warm smile no longer returned her own. No...she was alone, and it made her shiver a bit. Losing a soul mate was never easy.

Ah, but she had her memories. Rich, warm memories of every minute they had spent together. One benefit of being a telepath. There wasn't a moment that passed by that a memory didn't creep into her mind, be it just the tenderness of his kiss or the way he would fold his arms over his chest when he was upset, concerned or briefing. Each one managed to bring a smile to her lips, similar to the one she wore now as she knelt by the lake.

Her green eyes, distant, lost in deep thought and memory as they scanned around the lake, picking out those spots with sentimental value. Picnics, cloud watching, star gazing and many more moments they had spent out here, together..her in his arms, feeling safe and comforted.

Absentmindedly, her fingertips delicately touched a lily pad, gently swirling it in the water, mimicing the memories and thoughts that swirled in her own.

~~Are you watching us love? From where ever you may be? I feel you'll be proud. Nathan is quite the dancer. Well, after I took him through a few steps.~~

With a slight smile and sigh, she sat, pulling her knees to her chest, leaving the lily pad to float on its natural course.

Brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her eyes closed for a bit and then opened, staring blankly into the water. Her mind a flood of questions...the prevalent..Why? But then again, she already knew the answer. He was like her, ready and willing to sacrifice themselves to save those they love...their family. She had always admired him for it, and at the same time..hated him for the same reason.

No..it wasn't him she hated, it was God, Fate, or whatever it was that was dealing them the cards which dictated their life. Hadn't they suffered enough? Why..after all that they had been through had Fate cast her evil spell once more, taking him from her? Yes..Fate..not God. God wouldn't be so cruel..or then again, would he?

She rested her head on her chin, eyes still closed, closing her out from the surroundings while she looked inward. She couldn't bring herself to believe that he was gone. No...somewhere deep inside her, she had a feeling..she knew that he would be back. Just like she did, Scott would rise again. For true love can over come death. It had before for them, why not again?

Briefly, she opened her eyes, the green now glistening with the tears that had welled. One slid gently down her cheek. He would be back...
