Dear guys, dear Dom, dear Kai, dear everybody,
Hey. I know I haven't sent a letter in a long time, but we're finally in the same place for a while and I thought, you know, maybe you guys might like seeing something from me.
Mid doesn't say anything about it, but I know he thinks about you guys a lot. I do too.
So anyway, where to start? We've been working with Jenny Sparks again. She set us and a bunch of other rejects and reprobates up and we're flying around on a giant ship called The Carrier. Everybody says it like that, like it's capital letters and all. Nathan would love it here, I'm not kidding, this place grows and moves around and all but talks.
Nathan would actually probably get lost in here.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding, Dom, make him put the locator and the plasma cannon down...
But look, guys, I didn't write this to make jokes. The jokes are fun, but that's not why I'm writing. The thing is, something happened last week and I wanted to write and ask for your help.
It's not the work front, you know we've got that covered. It's just that so many of you hang out with A-1 scientists and medicos and all that stuff and I thought --
Mid is sick.
I should have said that up front, but I didn't want to come off like I'm all that worried. I'm NOT, really, or I shouldn't be. It's nothing serious, it's just the flu.
It's just that -- as you all know just as well as I do -- Mid doesn't GET sick. Never ever. Part of the tweaking that the Surgeon did to him back when we were getting Modified.
Oh, did I tell you? Jenny found out where the Surgeon is. We're going to go pay him a visit once Mid is well. He went to work for International Operations after Bendix died. But IO isn't what it used to be.
(Kai -- and don't worry, this part is only being sent in the letter to you -- part of the information Jenny has says that the Surgeon worked for Three Eyes before he worked for StormWatch. Jenny says that she remembers him from way back -- that he was supposed to be one of the higher-ups, that he did physical and emotional conditioning. She isn't sure how accurate that part is, but if it's true, you're welcome to come along. I've been with Mid long enough to understand the importance of revenge.)
Anyway, that's not really the important part. I know Mid isn't deathbed-sick or anything -- he just dry-heaves a lot and feels generally lousy. Mostly I want him well so I can get a decent night's sleep -- you have any idea how hard it is to sleep when the guy next to you is coughing up a lung?
And Nathan always used to say I have no sense of humor. Well, ha ha ha, big fella.
Those were both jokes. I'm still working on the whole 'make the jokes funny' thing. Actually, no. I want him well for the real reason I keep him around.
I need very badly to get laid. Isn't that what you used to tell me all the time, Nathan?
Of course, Nathan didn't know about Mid and me until we did that job with Kai in Bangkok, so maybe it doesn't count.
Seriously, though. I'm not so much scared as nervous. I know it's no big deal, but even flu is scary if the person who's got it is never supposed to be sick. So if you happen to see any of your big-name medico buddies, let me know, okay?
So that's pretty much it. I wanted to tell you about that, and to let you know that I think of you guys often. Don't forget about me. We'll drop in on you guys sometime, if we're in the area and we're not keeping the world from going boom or something.
(Kai -- again, don't worry, this is only going in your letter -- leave me a message at the old Geneva number about going with us on the Surgeon op. I don't mean to influence you, and if Jenny's information is wrong and the Surgeon didn't work for Three Eyes, feel free to let us settle the score on our own. It's just -- Mid will never ask for help, but the way he talks, we might need a hand. So -- call me. You still owe me ninety francs from the Paris job anyway.)
Your old friend always,
Apollo
P.S. Yes, Nathan, we're still gay.
Apollo and the Midnighter belong, I believe, to Image Comics, and were created by Warren Ellis, as is the case with Jenny Sparks, The Carrier, and all things having to do with The Authority.
Cable and Domino belong to Marvel Comics, inc.
The Surgeon belongs to Image as well -- as does the rest of the StormWatch organization.
Kai and the Three Eyes organization belong to the magnificent Kaylee-Jaya, of course.
And that, as they say, is that. Comments are most welcome. And are, in fact, begged for. Don't comment, and I'll -- I'll sic Kaylee on you. And you guys KNOW all the stuff she can do to you. *EG*
Yours --
