Subject: [OTL]: [Feedback] Better late...
Date: Wed, 22 Sep 1999: from 'rith
...than never, isn't that the rule?
Some of these come *very* late. My apologies.
Northlight--"Touch":
Wanting is not the same as having...it's *safer.* Thanks for this view of what
might really lie in Rogue's psyche. Didn't Xavier once say it was only her own
fears that kept her from controlling her own power, anyway?...The lady doth
protest too much, perhaps.
Mark Shakespeare--"It's Good to Talk":
Nice to see Kitty express the anger of the X-fans, who never bought into the
whole stupid rationale of keeping the X-Men dead in the first place. Kit deserves
her anger.
Oberon--"Resurrection."
Years ago I saw a Twilight Zone episode with this very theme. It scared the
bezeezus out of me. I'd finally gotten it out of my head and you drop *this*
little fic, and it all comes flooding back. So thanks. Loads. ;)
K Nice--"Nightmares: Storm":
Whoo. Yeah, I can see this. Nasty, real-world comes to the X-Men idea. Nifty.
Kielle!--"In the House that Robert Built":
This is just *cool* and *weird* and evocative as hell.
Lyssa--"Call of a Lover":
Ahhhh. *Titans* fic. And effective, sharp Titans fic, at that. About *Roy.*
sigh! More, please.
Syl--"Jason, I Hardly Knew Ye":
Trust Syl to cut to the heart of Dick Grayson's character. His anger/resentment/grief
about Jason comes across clearly here.
Indigo--"A Little Slice of Heaven":
Mmmm! I liked the stream-of-consciousness style, here. "She's not an Oracle.
She's an angel." Yeah, and it's great to see Dick appreciating that. Now, if
he'll only *do* something about it in the books....
Samy Merchi--"All in a Night's Work":
Oooooh. Beautiful, beautiful. More terrific Titans fic, with especially gorgeous
bits about Garth
Magik!--"Down the Drain":
Great answer to the aging challenge. Effective and real, similar in feel to
K Nice's "Nightmares."
Terri Hayes--"Aging Gracefully":
Another good one from the aging challenge--and starring the splendiferous Oracle,
no less. Nice interplay between her and Bruce. Ah, and you left me with the
image of Babs running her hands through Dick's hair--damn! I wish I could! ;)
Jim Smith--"Next Best Thing":
Ah, Karla. How I do love her, the spiteful, manipulative witch. And of course,
your obligatory Tastee® Brand LesbianInnuendo makes the whole thing ever
so much more intriguing. :) Looking forward to next time...when Warren does
something. (You *promised,* now.)
DarkMark--"Triad":
Well, of course I'll give more feedback over on the LegionFiction list, but
I couldn't let this one pass here; non-X-writers need all the encouragement
they can get. And I can always depend on DarkMark to give us worthwhile fic
from the more *neglected* areas of comicdom, which is even better.
Dannell--"Part of the Game":
Special thanks to everyone who spoke up on Dan's behalf yesterday, while I was
stuck in meetings and missed the whole debate. Having been one beta-reader for
this, I took the accusation as hard as if I'd been my own fic. Anyway, as I
already told Dannell, I love the Elseworlds twists here--the characters translate
over very well without losing their essential natures. (I'm still waiting for
Donna to show up, though! ;) )
