Some Praise for Lori McDonald

from Maelstrom

I don't know how I first found Lori McDonald's X-Men Fanfiction Archive on the net, but I do know that it was probably the first real archive I'd ever been to. Nothing else compared to it. And ever since that day, I'd always kept it in my bookmarks. It introduced me to a whole list of fanfic, and most of all, it gave me someplace to go to.

As time went by and she began updating less regularly, I too slowed down my visits, but still like a loyal puppy I popped in every now and then, just to see what was new in the archive. That's how long I've been with it.

Not only has Lori been a wonderful archivist, she's an even more wonderful writer. Her works are usually serious and contain killer lines, really dragging you deep into its psychological pit, but then she'd surprise you with terrific, teasing pieces of humor like "The More The Merrier" (co-written with Melissa Chambers). She's a great writer, and it is sad to see her go.

She announced that she would no longer be maintaining her archive. I personally feel a very sorry loss for many people, including myself, but I can understand why she wants to move on. I'd even like to encourage her to, and to let her know that we support her every single bit. Lots of luck, Lori.

She's one of a kind, and we're all going to miss her.

Maelstrom :)
