This Time It Starts With a C!
from Amanda Sichter
Work Christmas parties. Hangovers. 2 hours sleep. Does this explain why this is a day late?
Moving on with the alphabet, we come to the letter C
Chibi-Dyce (and Dyce) - Well, I wish you hadn't given up writing because I have so many stories of yours in my "keep 'em" file you must be damned good. And on that note - Maturity in B Minor and Rising Sun were wonderful (and I'm not even a vaguely baby-liking person so that's pretty amazing (for Rising Sun) oh, you know what I mean). Your poetry is lovely - The Lecture wonderful and gentle - The Mask You See brilliant and Dammed Time & Damned Time quite some of the funniest things I've read (Stryfe shimmying? *narf, narf*). And the Happy Families things - especially Kitty & Pete - and The No Story was beautifully constructed and interspersed humour so beautifully with well-seasoned (and *acceptable*) human angst that it was a delight to read. Sure you won't take up writing again?
Corinne A Soltis (apparently better known as Quwintessa) - The Ultimate Suffrage - a beautiful twist on the whole Rogue/Remy/Marrow thing.
Dr Benway - You know I love your stuff just on general principles - dark and grim and beautifully constructed. Transatlantic Crossing is still the best Charles/Magnus story I've read, I love White Ford Escort, and I think (maybe) I've given feedback on nearly everything else you've done. I've just finished The Chosen Ones and it was fantastic. It belonged to a period before I started with Marvel, but I understood who everyone was and could see the characterisations very clearly. It was just *so right* - the darkness and hopelessness of their situation counterbalanced by their fierce determination to succeed - Kitty's planning subverted by her own innate desire to be the ultimate victor - Emma in all her misbegotten glory - the tragedy of the Hellions - the dark manipulations of the Hellfire Club. Wonderful. But I haven't got to Morning in America yet *g*.
Dandelion - A Companion Picture. More please. Soon! Modifications - seriously funny - ditto Tug O'War. Anniversary - a beautiful, intelligent portrait of love. Destination: Central - Pete & Remy, oh, you wicked thing - indulging me with two of my favourite characters. And The Muses Menace - well, at least I know why A Companion Picture is taking so long to get out.
Dannell Lites - Life Among The Ruins - I've like a lot of your stuff, Dannell (and your wonderful habit of being so up-to-date with feedback!) but this particular story I've chosen as the one that touched me most. It just - it was just amazing. A wonderful Elseworld and very intelligently written.
Dark Mark - how do you keep introducing me to characters I've never read before? It's been a long time since you've put out more of A Prize For Three Empires, but you made me fall for Carol Danvers and I would love to see more. q - I've never read the Legion of Super-heroes, but this story was incredible - Jhodan & Dawnstar became so real. Look Upon My Works, Ye Mighty - well, now I'm going to have to attempt to track down the Watchmen PB. And I still have Superman & Man and your Batman/Outsiders fic waiting in my "unread" file, so more treats for me *g*.
David Amaya - Rumble & Shakespeare was very, very good. Gee, that feedback wasn't long on detail, was it? There are two many good writers with names that start with D - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Diamonde - see what I mean about good writers and the letter D? Diamonde, I've told you how much I love Fruitloops, Nutcases and Prophets. However, I probably haven't told you about how much I love Could've Been Worse, Always Relied on de Kindness of Strange Femmes, Before I Wake, The Villainous Drinking Game and Network (which has one of the best last lines *ever*). And I don't even vaguely think you're the same person as Dyce. Not even a little bit. The two of you are utterly and completely unique and the fact that so much talent exists in one family is simply astonishing. I bow in the general direction of your parents and wonder vaguely if there is a gene for "writing talent". Hmmm - more research, Igor!
That's it - I've run out of time to progress further in the alphabet. Tomorrow - E and maybe even F! Except I've got another Christmas party to go to - okay, I might be late again.
Amanda
